Research on Greenhouse Gas Emission Characteristics and Emission Mitigation Potential of Municipal Solid Waste Treatment in Beijing

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are a significant cause of climate change, and municipal solid waste (MSW) is an important source GHG emissions. In this study, from MSW treatment in Beijing during 2006–2019 were accounted, basing on the Intergovernmental Panel Climate Change (IPCC) inventory model; influencing factors affecting analyzed by logarithmic mean Divisia index (LMDI) model combined with extended Kaya identity, mitigation potential explored based different management policy contexts. The results showed that increased 3.62 Mt CO2e 2006 to 6.57 2019, average annual growth rate (AAGR) 4.68%, which 89.34–99.36% was CH4. Moreover, driving were, descending order: economic output (EO), emission intensity (EI), population size (P), urbanization (U). inhibiting pattern (TP) (TI). Furthermore, compared BAU (business–as–usual) scenario, classification control scenario 35.79% 0.51%, respectively, 2030.
